I cannot even watch Game of Thrones if not I'll just break my fast.
That statement struck me.
What is it about Game of Thrones that would cause your fast to be broken? Well, then maybe you shouldn't be watching Game of Thrones then.
Before you crucify me, hear me out. We live a version of Christianity that has become religious instead of a lifestyle. We do the 'right' things and say the 'right' things and yes we admit that we're not perfect and we're striving towards perfection but still we don't want to take too many steps away from our comfort zone.
A couple of years back, I was talking to a friend and he said something that made sense to me a little later. He was a series freak and said that that was one thing that helped him relate with 'other' people especially non Christians based on a certain level of understanding and revelation of scripture not to do certain things. Bottom line: We don't have music in common, we don't necessarily hang out in the same places but at least we have series and soccer in common.
Trust me I understand the need to want to be understood and accepted - It's something I still struggle with sometimes but I've come to a level where I need to take a stand against things I know for certain aren't building me up spiritually.
Back to GOT - not to castigate anyone but I decided to watch it a while back when everyone was talking about it and the first episode turned me off. I remember thinking that even Christians I respected were watching this! So I stopped, eventually I convinced myself to pay attention to the story line not the characters and it was pretty interesting so I went on watching it. But the Holy Spirit kept on telling me to delete it from my laptop but nah I didn't. Eventually my little brother wanted to watch it so I changed the folder name and hid it somewhere. Ask me why? I don't know!
Eventually I forgot about it thinking I had deleted it until a few days ago when it resurfaced. But now I don't need to finish it, it's gone. I'm not saying that whoever watches it is a sinner - No! All I'm saying is this:
1) If you can't proudly do something then maybe you shouldn't be doing it.
2) Disobedience to the Holy Spirit is sin. Its as simple as wearing that red shirt when you've expressly been told not to even though dressing up isn't a sin.
3) Something that you feel can defile you and 'deconsecrate' you during a period such as fasting shouldn't be avoided only for that period. It should be avoided permanently. There are things we fast from to subdue our flesh quite alright (e.g. food), but apart from that - live a holy lifestyle.
God's Grace is sufficient for us. Keep asking, you can't overdose,
God's Girl
