Hi
guys! Before I introduce myself, let me tell my story. I was born a long while
after my parents had been married and I was born a twin. I’m the older of the
two of us. Anyway growing up, Kehinde and I had a lot of squabbles and I
figured it was a boy boy thing. I noticed though that my mum seemed to love him
morea . Its not that my dad didn’t love us
either but he was usually busy with all his staff and property that we spent
more time with mum. It didn’t really seem like a big deal anyway and eventually
I became an outdoor man a.k.a hustler. I was out every day looking for daily
bread. Some days were successful and some not so successful but I noticed that
my father seemed to like me more at this point probably because I usually
brought home things he liked from my hustlea.
One
of those days that things were very tight, I got home and Kehinde was cooking
some delicious porridge. That’s one thing spending time with mumsi gave him
that I didn’t really have. Since I was hungry, I asked for some and the guy
started his usual wahala about me letting go of the fact that I was older since
people said we practically came out togetherb
– we were not
identical by the wayc. I agreed, after all, we were the
same age so it wasn’t a big deal.
We
moved around a bit and popsi had some wahala with the people around us.
Eventually when we settled, I got married to two young ladies (it was allowed
in my culture) hoping that I could give my folks grand children real soon. When
dad was old, and he couldn’t really see well, he called me one day and told me
to get him some of the treats I used to get him before that he liked. Remember
I said we moved around a lot? Well, it took me a while to find something for
him and so when I came back, I prepared it for him and took it in. All of a
sudden, he started shaking and I was scared. He wasn’t sure it was me because
he said I just left. I chalked it up to old age and still tried to get him to
eat a little but No! The old man was
adamant that I had been in there and then realised that Kehunde had deceived
him. I was very angry because apparently the father’s blessing which was a big
deal in my culture, he had bestowed on Kenny. I begged him to bless me too and
he just said a few things and let me go.d
You
can imagine I was angry with Kenny for a long while and in my anger that day, I
remember telling someone that I’d kill him. A little while later, I noticed
that dad called Kenny again and prayed for him and told him not to marry a
Lagos girl. That’s when I realised that dad disapproved of theme so I went to back to our state and
married another wife from one of the neighbouring villages.
Wow!
Its just a little left of my story but I’ve taken a lot of your time so I’ll
stop here and finish in the next post.
Until then,
Taiye.
Some of you might have figured out who Taiye is but in case you haven't. We'll find out his popular name in the next post. The superscript references would be tackled in the
next post as well. Please bear with me J
