Can you remember that soap that used to air a while back called 'Everyday People'? Well, as I typed the title, this line from the song entered my head -
'Everyday people - that's you, that's me!
There are four people I'd like to introduce you guys to. You know them already so I won't say much.
First is a sister that's always in church. She doesn't come here anymore now that she's married but she used to stay with her uncle who's an active member of the church. I don't know much about her parents so I won't assume here but this sister seems weird sometimes - not strange weird but she does things that are just kind of absurd. Can you imagine that she went to marry one old man just because she felt God told her to? She honestly didn't do it for money or love oh! Anyway I'm not among of her mind ...
Next is someone we're more likely to know. He's pretty popular - He's in authority and everyone respects him. He is also a God freak but you may think it doesn't really matter since he's in a high position in government. The thing is that his 'God-titude' was making his colleagues uncomfortable so they planned to have him fired or at least transferred. His Christianity was challenged to the extent of losing his job and his life but he didn't flinch. That's some serious courage though!
The third person is another sister that's present for every program with her whole family. She's been married for a while but doesn't have children and her husband because of family pressure and before he fully committed himself to God, took another wife. The second wife has children and they all come to church together but you could tell for a while that the issue was eating her up. Anyway, long story short, I heard her crying on the altar some years ago for a child and promised God that he would be a pastor. I didn't see this sister for a while and I heard a few months ago that they live in Ogbomoso now - the details of the reason I don't know yet but I'm suspecting it has something to do with that promise ...
Last but definitely not least is someone I like to call a man of many talents; there's almost nothing he cannot do! He's still also very humble, willing to learn and though he makes mistakes sometimes, I can see that his priority is pleasing God ALWAYS! He likes to write as well so that makes him extra special to me *wink* The way he dances in church too - Let's just say it's a show on its own!
I forgot to tell you their names!!! In order of appearance, we have sister Esther, brother Daniel, sister Hannah and brother David. In case you haven't figured it out yet, these people are indeed the bible characters we know - Queen Esther, Daniel in the lion's den Daniel, Hannah the mother of prophet Samuel and great King David. Can you see that they were just regular people too? So whenever you feel overwhelmed or discouraged, there's always something for you in the bible - it might be someone who's gone through something similar and their story encourages you or it might be just a word that lets you know that everything's going to be okay.
Remember that line at the beginning? Well my modification is
'Everyday people - that's you, that's me, that's them!!!'
Believe it or not, the bible is full of ordinary people doing extraordinary things!!! You can be one too.
God's Girl.
