Contentment VS. Complacency

It was a refreshing time in God's presence this last weekend and I'm still paying sleep the debt I owe it *yawn*. Anyway, plan not to miss next year if you weren't at this one and for those that were at this one, live E-MAD!

Hosea 9:7
(NCV)
'' ... The spiritual person is CRAZY!!!''

(MSG)
''... The man of the spirit is NUTS!!!''

(KJV)
'' ... The spiritual man is MAD!!!''

However they describe you, don't sweat it - Go and make an EXTREME DIFFERENCE in your world!

In other news,

*Welcome to another episode of Contrast*
<applause>
*Last match we had Believing VS. Be Living. If you missed it, just click on the title to check it out. Today in the ring we have - in the left corner weighing & pounds, CONTENTMENT! <applause> and in the right corner weighing a total of @ pounds, COMPLACENCY! And the battle begins ... <DING> NOW*

CONTENTMENT refers to a state of peaceful happiness or satisfaction while COMPLACENCY is self satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies or being uncritically satisfied with oneself or one's achievements. The common thing in both cases is the root word '-satisfy' which means to meet the expectations, needs or desires of something. It also means to fulfill - that is to achieve or realize something desired, promised or predicted. Now that all that is out of the way, let's move on to the real battle.

As Christians we are supposed to be content. This helps us avoid greed, covetousness and many other ills to a large extent. We should be satisfied yes but it doesn't mean we should settle for where we are. I think this is why most Christians are okay with being average because to them it means that they are not greedy. As for me, I know God has great plans for me so I dare to dream big!

I'm not saying that when you reach another level you shouldn't take time to enjoy your success or appreciate God for promotion or be proud of how far you've come but don't just sit there thinking that's how far you're meant to go. I like the word 'uncritically' in the definition of complacency. It's not contesting your satisfaction, it's just saying don't rest there if you can do better. Being satisfied with what you have is not stagnation either. Being connected to the Holy Spirit is another key thing that can help you here especially if things seem to be going the wrong way - Focusing on Jesus and God's ultimate plan for your life would help you to see the big picture or at least keep you from giving up just yet.

Contentment doesn't mean containment - It doesn't mean you shouldn't strive to be better and complacency doesn't make you good because you're not being 'greedy'. I have said a lot.

What do you think?
