Primary Purpose

Hi guys!
Guess what is happening next weekend?

No its not just Sallah break. Its Escape!!! Yup - Youth Retreat 2017! This time we're literally escaping the hustle and bustle of Lagos to Ede, Osun state. See the poster above for details abeg I can't talk too much. :D

Anyway to today's matter. The issue of purpose has been coming up a lot lately. Are you walking in purpose? Are you fulfilling purpose? What is your purpose really? Before you get excited that this is a step by step play on how to discover your purpose, strap your seat belt.

Truth be told though we are first called to a general purpose - soul winning!  Yup I said it!
We'll not me really. The Bible said it:

But all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ [making us acceptable to Him] and gave us the ministry of reconciliation [so that by our example we might bring others to Him], that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them [but canceling them]. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation [that is, restoration to favor with God].
2 CORINTHIANS 5:18‭-‬19 AMP

We are saved to save others. Now before you switch off,  stay a little longer. God desires that we prosper.  We need to understand that our offices,  our jobs and our positions are really just platforms for our primary purpose - to bring people to Christ.

It is important though to seek Gods face for our specific purpose  because before God formed us,  He already had plans for us.  It is now left to us to discover them.

“Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations— that’s what I had in mind for you.”
Jeremiah 1:5 MSG

Failure is not a reason to give up on life. Don't feel like it's too late to discover your purpose. It never is. Therefore in whatever you do,  even after knowing your specific purpose (your call or rather Gods call on your life), the ultimate goal is to win souls to Christ. In administering drugs in your pharmacy,  or attending to customers in your bank,  or even driving on Lagos road,  your goal Is to reconcile souls to Christ. Now I'm not saying you should use your oga's time to be preaching about how Jesus was crucified, died and rose again but in your attitude towards work, the words you say and your actions,  let them serve as a tool of evangelism. Basically,  let others see Jesus in you.

That being said - don't forget ESCAPE next weekend! 2nd to 5th September retreat ...

Anticipate!

Love you seriously,
God's Girl

The Christian and politics

Hey hey hey!

The first quarter of the year is about to be done!!! Time flies yeah? I know this year hasnt exactly been awesome so far for some people but so what? Celebrate life!!!!

Lol

Some people are already thinking 'Here we go again' - the Nigerian mentality of 'E go better' and suffering while smiling. Well, as much as I'd like to tell you all that, I'd also like to add this - What role have you played to make things better?

Its easy to give your views on policies and politics from behind the scenes and on whatsapp. Its even sweeter to sit down and wait for that church brother to appoint you somewhere but what are you being proactive about???

This is a call to action - Christians should run for office. Christians should not support Christians because they are Christians. We need to be objective to make things work.

I was reading about Nehemiah (Specifically Neh 5:14 - 18 - quickly flip through) and i realised that Nehemiah was a governor that empathised with his people. He did not sit non chalantly and watch his people 'fix stuff'. He did not just give the orders and sit in the comfort of his office. He participated.

In summary, these are the lessons I want to share:
1) A plan is necessary to give one's followers a vision to run with. It helps you execute tasks better and also builds investors confidence in you.

2) Being a Christian does not mean antagonizing 'wordly' people in power with you. Nehemiah did not go out of his way to rub it in Samballat and Tobias' faces that he was making progress, they saw it themselves. Besides that, the king loved him so much that he noticed he was sad and was willing to help him to restore his happiness.

3) Nehemiah did NOT reject the perks of his office. He only resolved not to steal and cheat. This translates to 'Don't hate!' There are privileges that a governor has that you cant have. There are benefits a president receives that you cant. Its one of those things - Kindly deal with it.

4) Being in a position of authority does not make it mandatory to help 'your people' but be open to observe the situation around you especially when youre governing people.

In all, its dangerous to enter politics without Gods backing but some Christians today have stopped listening because its too scary, its a sin or they'd lack support.

I dont know what the point of this is but i just felt led to share,

Gods Girl.

Game of Thrones - Yeah or Nah?

I cannot even watch Game of Thrones if not I'll just break my fast.

That statement struck me.

What is it about Game of Thrones that would cause your fast to be broken? Well,  then maybe you shouldn't be watching Game of Thrones then.

Before you crucify me, hear me out. We live a version of Christianity that has become religious instead of a lifestyle. We do the 'right' things and say the 'right' things and yes we admit that we're not perfect and we're striving towards perfection but still we don't want to take too many steps away from our comfort zone.

A couple of years back, I was talking to a friend and he said something that made sense to me a little later. He was a series freak and said that that was one thing that helped him relate with 'other' people especially non Christians based on a certain level of understanding and revelation of scripture not to do certain things. Bottom line: We don't have music in common,  we don't necessarily hang out in the same places but at least we have series and soccer in common.

Trust me I understand the need to want to be understood and accepted - It's something I still struggle with sometimes but I've come to a level where I need to take a stand against things I know for certain aren't building me up spiritually.

Back to GOT - not to castigate anyone but I decided to watch it a while back when everyone was talking about it and the first episode turned me off.  I remember thinking that even Christians I respected were watching this!  So I stopped,  eventually I convinced myself to pay attention to the story line not the characters and it was pretty interesting so I went on watching it. But the Holy Spirit kept on telling me to delete it from my laptop but nah I didn't. Eventually my little brother wanted to watch it so I changed the folder name and hid it somewhere. Ask me why?  I don't know!

Eventually I forgot about it thinking I had deleted it until a few days ago when it resurfaced. But now I don't need to finish it,  it's gone.  I'm not saying that whoever watches it is a sinner - No!  All I'm saying is this:

1) If you can't proudly do something then maybe you shouldn't be doing it.

2) Disobedience to the Holy Spirit is sin. Its as simple as wearing that red shirt when you've expressly been told not to even though dressing up isn't a sin.

3) Something that you feel can defile you and 'deconsecrate' you during a period such as fasting shouldn't be avoided only for that period. It should be avoided permanently. There are things we fast from to subdue our flesh quite alright (e.g. food),  but apart from that - live a holy lifestyle.

God's Grace is sufficient for us. Keep asking, you can't overdose,

God's Girl

Breathing with no air

Oxygen mask                Check!
Diving suit                    Check!
Goggles                        Check!

My mental checklist goes on as the instructor goes on about safety procedures and general directions on executing the dive. Its my first underwater adventure and I'm super excited. The countdown begins - 3, 2, 1!!!!

And I'm in! Hmm ... This is pretty cool! We're all allowed till our timer counts down ... Underwater is actually very beautiful - and colorful. I know a lot of you are wondering whether I'm still in Nigeria. Surprisingly I am!!! And this body of water is amazingly clean and fresh. I can literally smell ... Wait! I've been holding my breath. How am I supposed to activate this oxygen tank thing? I remember the instructor saying something about it during my checklist but I was not paying attention ... Help!!!

'Tell me how I'm s'posed to breathe with no air ...'

Its simple really - as long as you have oxygen you don't need air. Okay that may not be completely true but that's basically what you need in the air. Let's take a little science lesson - When we breathe in, air has 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.04% carbon dioxide and a little water vapor but when this air comes out it contains 21% oxygen, 4% carbon dioxide and is saturated with water vapor. Translation of all these is: WE NEED OXYGEN!!!

Don't go just yet! This wasn't just a science lesson. The thing is this; we usually forget that though oxygen is just a component of air, its the most important. Without the other components, we'd do just fine (pure oxygen for long periods of time and at high pressure can also be toxic but that's story for another day).

God is our oxygen! We literally need Him to survive and sometimes we get so caught up in activities and feel the wind surrounding us that we don't check to make sure we've got enough oxygen in our tanks. We're excited about a new day, a new year, a new house, a new car, a new baby, a new spouse, a new job and the list goes on and on, yet we forget to turn our tanks on first - until we begin to choke!
Apart from the oxygen, the instruction is important too. There are different levels of oxygen for different altitudes.

The basic lesson today is this - let go and let God! As you dive into a new opportunity, listen for instructions and then turn on your oxygen tank - don't wait until you begin to lose your breath!

Lots of Love and Hugs and Kisses,

God's Girl.

Love and Valentine

Hi guys! So if you were not at the dinner yesterday you missed out big time!!  *tongue out*! Yup ... It was an amazing 'hanging out' time.  That leads me to today's post - In the spirit of Valentine, it's all about love!

I cannot claim to know what love really is, or to have experienced love fully, I have however been lucky to know what I think is the highest form of love there is… friendship.
