Being a Dad in the 21st century

FIRST OF ALL, I would like to shout-out HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all the fathers and the ‘would be’ fathers in the house. Hope you were ministered to during the fantastic Service.
Ok! Now, let me start with the unmarried men; what’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about being a dad? It could be a lot of things…really, ranging from changing soiled diapers, wiping running nose, force-feeding and keeping all your delicate stuffs 2-feet above ground level, all the way thru rocking your baby to sleep, singing lullabies or telling bed-time stories and then unto going to clinics, paying school fees, home training, family protection, vacation etcetera-etceteraJ!
Sounds like Work,Stress&Bills! right? If you nodded in concurrence, then you just swallowed the easy part. You’ve not even started. Warri will say; ‘Your eye never see something’….lol. I remember when I was growing up, my mum had this big tank full of Kerosene she sold in gallons to the villagers and one day my younger brother (who was about 3 at that time) was so thirsty, he went to the tap of this tank, wrapped his mouth round it, turned it open and drank to his satisfaction…before he started coughing...of course. The only question I kept asking myself was; how on earth could he not differentiate between the tastes… at least after the 1st gulp? But when I remember I did the same horror with my Dad’s conc Schnapps and other items that were kept out of reach of children, I just stay cool:-). Please don’t ask me to tell you that story…lol.
Have I told you what comes to my mind when I think of being a father? Huh? Well, it’s my team player; my would-be wife. Sincerely, if you leave all those responsibilities to me with a woman who is not a team player, I’ll surely fail. The irony is that, some single mothers have survived all of these responsibilities alone. I’m one of the few men on earth that have enormous regard for team-player mothers. I don’t think there is any such thing as ‘Single father’! I’ll save the details of what I mean by team-player for another day. For now, see a team as… um… like a ‘Perfect Set’ containing ‘Imperfect Components’…kind of...lol
In the fifth episode of this series/topic, we are going to dive into the crux. I’ll be pointing our attention to the last item on our ‘Fatherhood list’ …Spiritual Leadership- demonstrating a godly lifestyle/influence in the familyJ. A lot of us grew up in homes where our mums were the ones that drove/anchored morning devotions… can someone tell me why? Ok. Not just yet… The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th episode of this series is dedicated to you; Men in the house who can boldly share their fears, excitement and courage with me on being a Dad. let's encourage ourselves.
I’m waiting for your comments…DaddyJ!
