Men’s talk

I’m a strong advocate of the DDL tool. I believe every man that wants to make things happen or change the norm must possess the DDL tool. The beginning of 2009 was the first time I admonished the gentlemen in the house to embrace this way of life as a matter of basic necessity. In fact, I can still remember one of our episodes where I shared on ‘prioritizing’ with the TMM tool (Time Management Matrix Tool - a rectangular diagram you could insert items/tasks based on importance and urgency). Hope you still remember?

If you were lost in the above paragraph, let’s bring you back to base:-). DDL is Diary on a Desk with Lamp. A man that does not have this basic tool cannot be my friend for too long (whether I know it or not). I cannot overemphasize what a Diary will do for you (we are not kids anymore). A Desk is also not just a reading table, it’s a motivator. It gives seriousness to whatever you want to do on it; be it to play, plan, read or think. However insignificant a Lamp might seem, it helps to reduce procrastination. You shouldn’t be using ‘PHCN’ as an excuse for not reading, planning or even doing your chores. I have a personal opinion that businesses done with the aid of a lamp are serious businesses:-).

The first month of the year 2011 is gone already. Where are you at? Have you started taking shots at your new set goals or still lamenting over the milk that was spilt last year? Guys, wake-up! It’s a new day and the challenges are different.

The important elements of success include; goal setting, good work ethic and a positive attitude. In planning my goals for this year, I decided to cut across 6 major areas of my life; SPIRITUAL, SOCIAL, EDUCATIONAL, HOME & FAMILY, PHYSICAL & HEALTH, then FINANCIAL. I’ve ensured that I SET personal goals for each of these aspects and have taken ACTION! What action? Well, every goal that I have set for the year has a weekly task which I have further broken down into daily tasks in my diary. At the end of each day or first thing in the morning, I try as much as I can to review every task on my desk (whether there is PHCN or not) and re-write or update a new list of tasks for the next/new day. This way, it will sink into my system and condition my mind to commit to it. It also helps me pray ‘specifically’.

We may delay, but time will not. Do the right things now so we can all meet at the top!

Have a great week.
